Seachd

I mentioned before about my interest in Scotland. What I failed to mention was that I am also interested in learning Scottish Gaelic. Please don't ask me what got me interested. All I can say is that the reason is because it's a language that is spoke by about 1,000 people (last I checked anyway) and many (if not all) of them are in Scotland.

I recently received an email which announced that a movie has been made which is in both English and Scottish Gaelic. The movie is called Seachd. If you are interested in learning more about this film you can check out their website at http://www.seachd.com.

Rick and Bubba

This afternoon around 1600 central time, I had the opportunity to meet Rick, Bubba, Speedy, and Don Juan in person. I took the opportunity. This was at a book signing for their latest book The Rick and Bubba Code and was held at Kroger in Starkville, MS. WCBI was on hand to record the event and I (along with a few others) could be seen on the 2200 news broadcast.

Anyway, if anyone's interested in seeing some pictures from the event, they can be found at

Baby Doll

Naomi with her new baby doll, Baby Hannah, and their mommy, Sandra.

Hannah really looks like a baby doll in this picture and I can imagine Naomi thinking of Hannah as a life-like baby doll. ;-j

Based on what I heard her say this past weekend, Naomi probably said "Naomi hold" before this picture was taken.

Scotland

One of my favorite places in the world and one I have never seen (except in pictures).

I first fell in love with Scotland through a poem by a favorite poet of mine, Robert Burns. The poem is called "My Heart's in the Highlands." Since then, this poem is relevant to me as that's where I feel my heart is. Oh, I am an American citizen and have no reason (at least not now) to believe that'll ever change, but that doesn't mean I can't have a favorite country outside of the US.

So, what prompted this post you may be wondering? Simple. I recently received an email with a link to a photo album. The contents of this photo album were pictures taken in Scotland. I had thought of including a link to that site, but decided not to as it may not have been meant for public viewing. However, I can add links to some sites about Scotland which I have visited.

Numb3rs

Those who know me well (and maybe even some who don't) would find it surprising to know that I am a fan of the hit tv series, "Numb3rs." However, this is the truth. I have never been good with math, but it has always fascinated me. I don't know why. Maybe it's because you're trying to solve for a specific answer. You know what I mean. Something like x-2y=3z now solve for z (granted, this is just something I came up with off the top of my head. Whether or not the equation can actually be solved is debatable.)

I love a good mystery and this show supplies that. Not only in solving a case - who killed the senator and why - but also in solving problems - we can use this formula to determine the search radius. How can anyone not be fascinated?

I can see students going into the field of mathematics because of this show. However, I won't be amongst them. And the math community can consider itself fortunate that I don't. ;-j

Kelley McRae

Kelley's on my mind at present and with good reason. I am currently listening to her "Never Be" album. Besides the title song, there are a couple of other songs that are particular favorites of mine (don't get me wrong, I really like them all). These are "Break Us" and "What Ya Get Is What Ya See."

I can't really explain why I like "Break Us." It's just one of those songs you can like without a reason. As to "What Ya Get Is What Ya See," well, that one I can explain. It's me. As the song says, "I'm not pretty like the girls on tv." Now you know why there's no picture of me here. ;-j

Keep up the good work, Kelley! ;-j

A New Year

Wow! I can't believe it didn't occur to me before. I wanted to see my first blog entry as everyone else would see it and I noticed the date was January 1, 2007. I knew it was a new year, but somehow the thought hadn't crossed my mind as I posted my first entry.

Can you believe it's a new year already? It seems like it was only yesterday that 2006 began. A lot has happened this past year. A lot of hurt and pain. Some joy and some tears. Deaths and births also occurred. I guess this has been pretty much the same for the world every year, but this year some of these hit home with me. My hope is that this year can be a year of healing and renewal.

Showers

Well, this is my first post here and I still am not sure what to say.

If you're wondering about the title of this blog, "Showers," that's understandable. I couldn't think of anything else to call it and I wanted this blog to be rather random. I write a lot of songs and poems and many of these have been inspired by rainstorms and cloudy days. Therefore, "Showers" seemed the best choice.

I love showers. Especially if it's cloudy outside. My eyes are rather sensitive to the sun so cloudy days are always very welcome for me. I can actually see the world around me without squinting my eyes. Showers...I don't know what it is about them that I really like. I can picture myself standing outside during a shower. The sky is filled with dark clouds. My eyes are closed as my face is turned towards the sky. Drops of rain splash down on my face. I hold my arms out as if surrendering to the rain. I feel a cool breeze sweep through my hair. In this breeze, I can easily smell the scent of rain.
